Jobless-rate dip cheers Obama
It’s not a real turnaround, Romney says
Posted: October 6, 2012 at 4:03 a.m.
President Barack Obama greets supporters Friday after speaking at a campaign rally at Cleveland State University in Ohio. Obama and rival Mitt Romney spent the day discussing new unemployment numbers with supporters.
President Barack Obama celebrated good economic news Friday as the unemployment rate dropped to its lowest level since he took office. “We are moving forward again,” he said. Republican rival Mitt Romney retorted that the president still hasn’t done enough to help millions of people who are out of work.

I find it such a coincidence that since Romney mopped the floor up with Obama and totally embarrased him on Wednesday night, that after 43 consecutive months of over 8% umemployment that the rate will all of a sudden be 7.8% with only 114,000 jobs added. This is not even keeping up with the population growth. No one is fooled by this charade. I will predict right now that if the rate goes back over 8% they will not report that number on 11-2-12, but, if it remains the same or lower, they will announce it on 11-2-12 right before 11-6-12.
I want to see 0% unemployment for the sake of our nation, but the so called 7.8% does not represent the ones who have been unemployed for over 99 weeks. It's heart breaking to see over 21 million people out of work.
The DNC is predicting the Latino and Black communities heavily support Obama, if so, how can they since the Latino unemployment is over 11% and the Black unemployment is over 14% and the Black teen age unemployment is over 21%. That should be embarrasing for Obama. The bottom line is he doesn't really care for you, he just wants your vote so he can keep our mansion, jet, and helicopter for 4 more years.
Everyone remember when Obama said if you pass the stimulus we will be under 5% unemployment by this time. Not happening. He is a disaster for our country, we have to make a change next month for our nation to survive financially.

the sour grapes of the republicans is amazing!
first they won't let obama pass anything that helps jobs, just so he will not look good at election time. then when his policies are working anyway in spite of the do nothing congress. they say the numbers are not true. it was thoroughly checked and it is true, foolballfan, and by 2014 it will be alot lower if the baby boomers who are waiting to retire until they can get the pre- existing clause in the obama health act to allow them to buy a policy to bridge until medicare, there are millions waiting to retire that are UNinsurable now due to age and pre existing conditions. so are working until age 65 even tho they can retire now.
If you believe Romney won the debate against Obama then you must believe all the lies he said?
he is moving to the center flip flopping to get the middle votes.
I believe Obama was the one to help America see the clear differences betweeen the two parties so they can make a informed choice..Romney spoke only to his donars and lobbists, not to the voters.

FootB: "after 43 consecutive months of over 8% umemployment...">>
Well that little talking point has just gone kaput hasn't it? 30 months of consistent job growth and the lowest unemployment since Obama inherited Bush's record setting disaster.
It's important to realize why employment took such a hit and a long time to recover:
1) During Bush's lost decade we lost 42,000 factories, the worst job record *ever.*
http://tinyurl.com/8u7wr3q
2) Bush's Great Recession lost as many jobs as the previous four recessions *combined.* That's a really big deal. http://tinyurl.com/3zfyntq

The notion that the executive branch controls the day that job numbers are released is conspiracy nonsense.

Sure you do. But when slightly better job numbers are reported, you don't believe them.

That's just another whopper that Mittens is peddling. Note:
***
"THE FACTS: The number of unemployed is 12.5 million, not 23 million. Romney was also counting 8 million people who are working part time but would like a full-time job and 2.6 million who have stopped looking for work, either because they are discouraged or because they are going back to school or for other reasons."

FootB: "Obama said if you pass the stimulus we will be under 5% unemployment by this time.">>
He never said that (he said 8%, which has now come to pass).
First, it's been over 8% because government employment has contracted (private sector has increased). This is the opposite of during Bush when the government expanded and the private sector employment actually contracted.
And from May:
"So why the high unemployment rate? Largely because of public-sector job cuts — most in states that saw new GOP governors and legislatures elected in 2010 slash budgets for teachers, public safety and other service functions. Without these cuts, the Labor Department estimates our unemployment rate would be at 7.1 percent. Not the 8.1 percent it’s at now." http://www.politico.com/news/stories/...
When he made the 8% assertion (now fulfilled) it was based upon the following report which was working upon estimates of the day. Bush's Great Recession turned out to far worse than anyone realized at the time. Note the qualifiers in the report:
"1 Forecasts of the unemployment rate without the recovery plan vary substantially. Some private forecasters anticipate unemployment rates as high as 11% in the absence of action."
And in the conclusion:
"This study has sought to investigate the likely job creation effects of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan currently under consideration. As emphasized at many points in the analysis,
there is substantial uncertainty around all of our estimates. Nevertheless, we believe they can provide useful guidance as we go forward."

MoneyM: "Gas in california $5.50 gal.">>
Not even close. The average gas price in California is $4.66.
http://www.californiagasprices.com/re...
And this spike has nothing whatsoever to do with the president:
"Analysts attributed the price surge to fuel traders' emotional reaction after a series of refinery outages and other problems, including a Northern California refinery fire, a Southern California refinery blackout, pipeline contamination and other events."
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi...
Incidentally, the *national* average price spiked to $4.16 under Bush. Today... it's $3.81.

This is a lame excuse!
Stop cheering against it succeeding. I will when we have something to cheer about.
I find it so amusing when the left says that Romney has lied throughout the debate on Wednesday night, when, in reality, it was Obama and his lame administration telling lies in every statement they make. That Stephanie Cutter chick is the biggest liar I have ever seen. Nancy Pelosi and Debra Schultz are in the same category as well.

FootB: "I stand corrected, I meant to say under 6% unemployment by this time.">>
Still completely wrong. No such promise was made. From Politifact:
***
"[Obama was citing a report by] ...Christina Romer, then chairwoman of the president's Council of Economic Advisers, and Jared Bernstein, the vice president's top economic adviser.
Their report projected that the stimulus plan would create 3 to 4 million jobs by the end of 2010. The report also included a chart predicting unemployment rates with and without the stimulus. Without the stimulus (the baseline), unemployment was projected to hit about 8.5 percent in 2009 and then continue rising to a peak of about 9 percent in 2010. With the stimulus, they predicted the unemployment rate would peak at just under 8 percent in 2009.
The important word here is projection. The economic analysis wasn’t a promise, it was an educated assessment of how events might unfold. And it came with heavy disclaimers.
"It should be understood that all of the estimates presented in this memo are subject to significant margins of error," the report states." [the rest already cited above]
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-met...
FootB: [quote] "Analysts attributed the price surge to..."
"This is a lame excuse!">>
It's not a excuse. It's a plausible explanation of the price surge. What is not plausible is in any way blaming the price surge on the president, which is naive and ridiculous. Presidents don't control the price of gas.

We don't just say it, we back it up with specific verifiable examples. Romney repeatedly shows no regard for truth or accuracy:
1) Here's your Romney getting his facts wrong 27 times at the debate: http://www.nationofchange.org/last-ni...
2) Here's 35 of his howlers in his convention speech shredded, point by point: http://thinkprogress.org/romney-facts...
3) Here are the 37 additional whoppers he's told in just the last week: http://maddowblog.msnbc.com/_news/201...
4) Here are ten more examples: http://front.moveon.org/10-pieces-of-...
When you're done with those, I have more.
Footb: "Obama and his lame administration telling lies in every statement they make.">>
Then you will have no trouble demonstrating a specific example of a lie. If you don't know what constitutes a lie, examples will be provided.

possibly Romney is getting older and may have some dementia? as if he really forgot or got so many facts wrong he may actually forgot them? so is he a liar or a demented old man? so scary either way. I prefer the intelligent younger Obama at the helm.
maybe when Ryan says Romney is looking like Reagan, he may mean the Alheimers disease?

LadyL: "so is he a liar or a demented old man?">>
I don't see any evidence of dementia whatsoever (he's only 65).
He's lying, shamelessly and with bells on. Plain and simple. And everyone knows it. See this:
http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos...
And then note:
"Mitt Romney tells 533 lies in 30 weeks, Steve Benen documents them"
"Mitt Romney lies. A lot. He lies more than any other national candidate for office in my lifetime. And I was born before the Nixon administration.
This is documented. Proven. Validated, verified, demonstrated, catalogued and quantified. Mitt Romney lies.
Here are 30 — 30! — of Benen’s weekly “chronicling” posts. These are all backed up and sourced."
http://www.patheos.com/blogs/slacktiv...
That's a collection that goes to August, and it's not complete. He adds about 30 per week so Romney's probably over 600 by now. I wouldn't remotely defend each and everyone of them as technical "lies" (some are shameless errors, I say shameless because he keeps repeating them and some are open to interpretation), but a great number of them must be intentional.

how can an honest man debate such a liar? it is a mockery of the highest office.
another bored billionaire thinking this is a sport.
who won? who cares.! the reason for the debate was to clarify the issues so we can make a wise choice in nov. how can we do that if it is a joke?
