Turkish commandos stand near the Turkey-Syria border Thursday in Akcakale, Turkey. Turkey fired on Syrian targets for a second day but said it has no intention of declaring war, despite tensions after deadly shelling from Syria killed five civilians in a Turkish border town.

Turkey doesn’t want war with Syria but it’s determined to protect its borders and its people, the country’s prime minister declared Thursday.
