A Carlisle man who told police he had struck a deer at the same location and time where a pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle has been arrested, authorities said.

Robert Lee Glover Jr., 50, faces a felony charge of failing to stop after an accident with injury or death. Glover was arrested Nov. 13 and was released from the Lonoke County jail, Jim Kulesa, a spokesman with the Lonoke County sheriff’s office, said Wednesday.

Police said Glover struckand killed Kimberly Perkins, 39, of Lonoke on the evening of Aug. 24 as she tried to flag down help along the side of U.S. 70 about five miles west of Lonoke.

An affidavit filed by state police investigator Jeff Whitlock said Perkins had run out of gasoline and was attempting to get a ride to a service station when she was struck.

A witness said the vehicle that hit her was a dark sport utility vehicle. Examining pieces of a shattered headlight left on the highway, police later identified the vehicle as a GMC Denali, Whitlock wrote in his affidavit.

On Sept. 1, Glover told Arkansas State Police Trooper Jacob Farnam that he had struck and killed a deer on U.S. 70 but did not stop. Glover told Farnam that he then stopped in Lonoke and washed his vehicle because he “had gotten a lot of bugs on his car.”

Police later matched shards of glass found on the road with the broken headlight on Glover’s car, Whitlock said in the report.

Lonoke County Prosecuting Attorney Chuck Graham said Wednesday that he will review the case and is expected to file a formal charge shortly.
