Fort Smith Symphony plays American standards

Steve Lippia is not a Frank Sinatra impersonator or tribute artist but instead a performer of the music of the popular American songbook and Christmas songs.

Lippia, 56, has been performing full time for about 13 years, and he has been singing big band music and standardssince he was in college. He is the guest artist Saturday for “A Simply Sinatra Christmas” with the Fort Smith Symphony.

Lippia notes that Frank Sinatra was an important artist.

“You either grew up listening to Sinatra or you grew up listening to your parents or grandparents listen to him. He bridged so many generations,” he says.

In addition to performing songslike “Moonlight in Vermont,” “The Christmas Waltz,” “The Christmas Song,” “White Christmas,” and “Ave Maria,” Lippia says he will talk about the stories behind the songs.
