PUBLIC VIEWPOINT: Open Carry Means Fewer Lawyers

Don Switzer (Public Viewpoint, Nov. 24) states it is idiotic to have open carry and that we’ll revert back 200 years when people fought it out in the streets with their six guns.

My reply to Mr. Switzer is, an armed society is a polite society. Unlike what you have seen in the cowboy movies, people didn’t just resolve disputes all the time by shooting each other.

That was a time when people were polite to each other and robbers thoughttwice before trying to hold someone up at gunpoint because the person they were holding up also had a gun as well as many around them.

If you think ... “open carry” will mean people are shooting it out at high noon, then I want you to look at our military. In a combat environment everyone is locked and loaded, and you don’t see them killing each other over a little dispute, do you? Why are people always polite around police oftcers? Duh, because they are armed.

Are you trying to say everyone who owns a gun and wants concealed or open carry is an idiot?

By the way, open carry or concealed carry (permit holders) must obey the law.

Switzer claims to be a lawyer. How many drunken drivers has he defended?

After all, drunken driving is against the law, yet people do it anyway. If you ban concealed and open carry, does that mean nobody will carry? Because we all know drunken driving is perfectly legal, right?

And so is armed robbery, right? If everyone waspolite and followed the law, we wouldn’t need idiotic lawyers making more stupid laws.

Just because you don’t want to carry openly, don’t infringe on the rights of us that do.

If you are my neighbor and you are against guns, I promise not to use my guns to protect you or your family and I will gladly put a sign in my yard stating “I will not use my guns to protect my neighbor’s property.”
