Man Robbed At Craigslist Meet

— A man said he was robbed Wednesday after he arranged to meet a woman he contacted through Craigslist.

The man, whose name was not released by police, went to Foxfire Apartments on West End Street around 3 a.m. to meet the woman, according to a police news release. Three men, one with a silver handgun, jumped him in the parking lot and beat him. Another hit the man in the face with the gun.

The suspects took his wallet, cellphone and car keys. They forced him to remove his socks and shoes, thinking he had money in them, according to police records. After he heard a click, which he took as the gun misfiring, he fled north, barefoot and bleeding from wounds to his face.

He ran to Sunset Avenue and called police from a motel, according to the release.

Police found the man’s car parked in the back of the apartment lot. The vehicle had been gone through, and the CD player missing.

The man was treated for his wounds at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. His name and medical condition weren’t released by police.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the Criminal Investigation Division at 479-750-8139.

People responding to ads on Craigslist should be careful, said Lt. Derek Hudson, Springdale police public information officer. If something doesn’t seem right, don’t set up a meeting, he said.

“We’ve had other instances where a meeting set for a motel or apartment complex turned into a robbery,” Hudson said. “People should be aware this could happen.”
