Mayor Thank Police; City OKs Budget

— Mayor Bob McCaslin thanked the Bentonville Police Department at Tuesday’s City Council meeting for their work in the Jersey Bridgeman murder case that ended with an arrest Monday night.

“I want to commend the Police Department for a conclusion to a heinous crime in our town,” McCaslin said. “I compliment them on their thoroughness and their professionalism.”

He said many officers missed Thanksgiving dinners and time with family and focus on the murder that happened on Nov. 20.

“We appreciate you,” he said. “You make this a better place to live.”

The City Council passed a 2013 budget during the meeting. The budget projects 1.9 percent growth in revenue and expenses over the 2012 budget.

Projections leave the city with a net of $1.25 at the end of the year. Council members met in a committee meeting Monday night to discuss the document and unanimously approved it Tuesday.

Aldermen also approved a rezoning for Walmart property at 1703 E. Central Ave. from agricultural to commercial and rezoned property at 2606 E. Central Ave. to planned residential development for The Villas Central Avenue.

A property line adjustment for the John and Elizabeth Ault Trust at 1401 S.W. Second St. was also unanimously approved.
