— Incumbent Jeff Watson held off his challenger Tuesday in the low turnout, runoff race for the City Council Ward 3, Position 2 seat.

Watson beat Teresa Moore Powers in the runoff election after the general election eliminated two additional candidates. Watson earned a four-year term.

“I want to thank all my supporters for coming out and voting for me,” Watson said. “I also want to thank Teresa Powers for a good campaign.”

With all Washington County precincts reporting, Watson received 497 votes (66 percent) and Powers got 259 votes (34 percent) in final but unofficial voting. The totals also include voting for the portion of Springdale in Benton County, which had 16 of 26 precincts reporting.

In the general election, Watson had 6,278 votes (45 percent) to Powers’ 3,921 (28 percent). Christopher Pryor had 2,287 votes (16 percent) with Dan Runge receiving 1,541 votes (11 percent).

Incumbents Kathy Jaycox and Rick Evans won re-election Nov. 6. Eric Ford, another incumbent, was unopposed.

Powers conceded after Washington county results came in.

“I want to congratulate Jeff Watson,” Powers said. “I also want to thank everyone who came out for the runoff. A lot of people don’t vote in the runoffs.”

Watson campaigned by saying he brought experience with ongoing city projects, such as the Interstate 540 interchange at Don Tyson Parkway and the Razorback Greenway.

Powers’ campaign message was Watson had been on the council for 14 years and it was time for new ideas.
