— BOXING Silver Gloves set

The Arkansas Silver Gloves championship will be held Friday and Saturday at the North Little Rock Community Center.

The tournament will feature 23 Arkansas boxing clubs.

Champions will advance to the regional tournament in North Little Rock on Jan. 10-12 with champions from Tennessee, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma.

Bouts begin at 7 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students.

BASKETBALL Christian Brothers tops UAM women

Christian Brothers’ Candis Clear made a three-pointer with 11 seconds left to lift the Buccaneers to a 62-61 victory over Arkansas-Monticello’s women on Saturday at Canale Arena in Memphis.

The game-winning shot came after UAM’s Catherine Puckett made a layup with 26 seconds left to give the Cotton Blossoms a 61-59 lead. UAM had a chance to win it at the end, but Jordan Goforth missed a shot with two seconds left.

UAM was led in scoring by junior Demetra Howlingwolf, junior Raija McWright and freshman Logan Hammonds with nine points each. Junior Ashley Qualls added eight points.

CBU’s Breanna Ridgell led all players with 18 points. Candis Clear added 13 points and Sarah Combs had 11.

Texas-Dallas defeats Ozarks

The Texas-Dallas women’s team held off University of the Ozarks in the second half to earn a 73-63 victory Saturday in their American Southwest Conference opener.

Tamara Wilkett led Ozarks (1-3, 0-1 American Southwest Conference) with 14 points, while Jordyn Ferrell added 11 points.

Texas-Dallas improves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the ASC.

Texas-Dallas men top Ozarks

Texas-Dallas’ men made 10 three-pointers and had four players with at least 10 points Saturday in a 72-53 American Southwest Conference victory over the University of the Ozarks.

Ronnie Dodd led Ozarks (1-4, 0-1 ASC) with 17 points.

Texas-Dallas remains undefeated at 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the ASC.

St. Gregory’s beats Lyon women

St. Gregory’s women defeated Lyon College 73-59 Saturday in Batesville.

Lyon College (4-1) shot 30.3 percent (20 of 66) from the floor and made 4 of 18 three pointers. St. Gregory’s (4-5) outrebounded the Scots 36-26.

Three Scots finished with at least 10 points. Phagen Altom led the way with 14 points to along with 7 steals, 3 assists and 3 rebounds. Christine Smith scored 13 points, making 3 of 6 three pointers with 3 steals, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Suzanne Fincham came off the bench to add 10 points with 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

Leticia Silva led the Cavaliers with 15 points. Kalie Lucas added 12 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks, and Stacy Lee scored 12 points. Tess Robbins had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
