Second thoughts

— Thanks for the turkey ... however

Even while giving away free turkeys, the Kansas City Chiefs cannot escape the wrath of their suffering fans.

Wide receiver Dexter McCluster, while delivering a free turkey and canned goods to a humble home on Thanksgivng Day, got an unexpected scolding from an elderly woman.

“She put me in my place,” McCluster said with a grin. “But she’s a sweet lady. She meant well.”

McCluster said he hadn’t even had time to put away the groceries before the woman, who lives alone, let him have it.

“She said, ‘I’m praying for you guys. Hopefully you guys can win a game soon,’ ” he said. “I told her we’re working hard. She said, ‘Well, work harder.’

“I thanked her and told her there’s always room for prayer.

She told me she had lived in thathouse for 52 years.”

Fan anger has been building all season against the Chiefs, who will be looking for their first home victory today when they host Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.

Last week, thousands offans wore black to the game to mourn the loss of the season and encourage owner Clark Hunt to clean house.

It sounds as though McCluster’s new friend is fully behind the effort, but he took no offense.

“She loves her Chiefs and she wants us to win,” he said. “She told us she’d been praying for us. I told her I would relay her message to the whole team to work harder.” Bad timing

“So throwing a challenge flag on a play that should be automatically reviewed not only is a penalty, but makes the play unreviewable?” wrote Janice Hough of leftcoastsportsbabe.

com. “What a shame for Detroit that they didn’t have replacement refs who wouldn’t have known that stupid rule.” Sweet trade

A fan on Craigslist is offering to swap his leftover Halloween candy for Philadelphia Eagles tickets, and he thinks it’s a fair trade.

This is the posting that went up this week:

“I’ll trade my leftoverHalloween candy for tickets to the Eagles vs Panthers game this Monday night.

“I have 23 Snickers bars (fun size), 5 Snickers Almond bars (fun size), and an unopened bag of Charms Blow Pops (assorted flavors).

“The game is Monday night, it’s against the Panthers, and it’s going to be cold. If you’d rather not sit through another Eagles’ game, this is a great trade.”

While the candy may be fun size, there’s not much fun to be found in a game between the 3-7 Eagles and the 2-8 Panthers.

“I think we’ve shown that you can do it at Arkansas. You can win.

You can make the BCS.

We can be in contention to win a national championship.” Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long on the state of the Razorbacks
