Police arrested a Springdale man Saturday after he reportedly shoved his girlfriend’s head in a toilet and stuffed toilet paper in her mouth.

Churchie Black, 31, of 317 Berry St. in Springdale was arrested Saturday in connection with felony aggravated assault on a family or household member.

According to a preliminary arrest report, Black and his live-in girlfriend of four months, Stephanie Dalton, got into an argument at their home. Black reportedly accused Dalton of cheating on him. Dalton told Black she wanted to break up, according to the report. Police said Black hit Dalton on the head with a door and kicked her as she leaned over to get her clothes. Dalton left for work but later returned for lunch.

Black reportedly asked Dalton if she still wanted to break up. When Dalton said she did, police said Black became angry and held her down on the couch. He then carried Dalton to the bathroom, punched her on the face and held her head in the toilet, according the report. Police said Black took toilet paper from a trash can and shoved it in Dalton’s mouth. Dalton told police she thought Black wanted to kill her.

She reportedly escaped and went to the Mercy Medical Center in Rogers. Police said Dalton suffered a black eye and bruises to her cheek, wrists and upper arms. Black was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center on $7,500 bond Saturday.
