Man Charged With Abuse

— Washington County deputies arrested a Springdale man Saturday for reportedly abusing his stepchildren.

Greeley Phillips, 39, of 22236 Butler Ford Road in Springdale faces a felony charge in connection with second-degree battery.

According to a preliminary arrest report, John C. Mobley, 38, told deputies Friday that Phillips abused his 9-year-old son, 8-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son. Mobley said he picked his kids up from their mother’s house and they told him Greeley hit them and left bruises on them. The children reportedly said he abused them and their mother, Julie Phillips, 31, more than once.

Mobley told deputies he recently filed a report with the Department of Human Services, but felt nothing was being done to protect his children. He said police responded to a domestic disturbance Thursday involving his children at their mother’s house.

According to the report, no one was home when deputies were called for a disturbance on Thursday.

Mobley’s 9-year-old son told deputies Greeley wanted him to pick up items around the yard and place them in a barrel. When the boy placed the items in the wrong barrel, Greeley reportedly picked up a reflector light and threw it at him. The boy suffered two bruises to his thigh, according to the report.

Mobley’s 8-year-old daughter told deputies she also had bruises caused by Greeley, but she couldn’t remember how.

Greeley was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held on $5,000 bond Saturday.
