2013 Eagle Award nominations open

Washington Regional Foundation will accept nominations for the 2013 Outstanding Health Leadership Award until Dec. 14. Also known as the Eagle Award, the recognition was established by Washington Regional Foundation to honor individuals or organizations who have made extraordinary contributions to the improvement and/or delivery of healthcare services in the four-county area of Northwest Arkansas.

The award will be presented at Washington Regional Foundation’s 20th annual gala on April 2 at Walton Arts Center.

Awards for 2012 were presented to Merlin Augustine, Hershey Garner and Arkansas Support Network for their outstanding contributions to health care in the region. Examples of possible nominees include volunteers, businesses, organizations, physicians, nurses, health-care professionals, providers and government officials.

Nominations for Eagle Awards will be accepted and reviewed by a confidential committee who will evaluate nominees based on specific criteria. Muscle-testing lab wins top marks

Northwest Arkansas EMG Clinic is the only laboratory in Arkansas to receive “exemplary laboratory accreditation status” from the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine. EMG, or electromyography, involves testing the electrical activity of muscles.

The main office for Dr. Miles M. Johnson’s clinic is at 350 E. Millsap Road in Fayetteville at (479) 251-8055. His website at nwaemgclinic.com lists satellite locations in Bentonville, Berryville, Siloam Springs and Van Buren.

Johnson has specialized in nerve and muscle testing for almost 25 years and is certified by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

Travel agency to get new owner

Great Southern Travel, which has an office at 2522 Pinnacle Hills Parkway Suite 100 in Rogers, will be purchased by Adelman Travel. The purchase Friday is from Great Southern Bancorp Inc., which has owned the agency for 35 years.

Customers will experience no disruption to travel plans and no changes in employees are anticipated, according to a news release from Great Southern Bancorp. The 12 travel offices in Arkansas, Missouri and Kansas serve business and leisure travelers. The Springfield, Mo., company has 107 banking centers in six states and will focus strictly on that core business.

Adelman Travel provides business and consumer travel with more than $400 million in annual revenue. It employs 185 people in 20 full-service travel centers and four regional reservation centers. Its size places it in the top 10 of U.S.

travel management companies.

Supply-chain classes set for January

Classes leading to designation as a certified supply-chain professional will start in January from the Northwest Arkansas Chapter of the Association for Operations Management.

The class will meet 5-9 p.m. Thursdays for 10 weeks, starting Jan. 8, at a Springdale location to be announced.

The cost of $2,250 includes the voucher to take the examination. Without the voucher, the cost of the class and the learning system is $1,595. The deadline for registration is Dec. 14 at [email protected] or Joan Smith at (479) 871-9826.

Counseling business changes name

Gary and Sharon Nelson, co-owners of Nelson Counseling, 5500 Pinnacle Point Drive Suite 204 in Rogers, have changed the business’s name to Pinnacle Counseling to reflect a staff of seven and expanded office space.

The 7-year-old firm focuses on results-oriented mentalhealth services, marriage counseling, alcohol treatment, drug treatment and counseling for issues such as anxiety and depression. Group therapy sessions and equine therapy are recently added options.
