Well golly gee. We've gone back 200 years where anyone can get even in a hurry! Law is a valuable way to reasonably settle disputes for sure. But how reasonable is it when someone decides to rob a bank, store, or a person or otherwise do them harm? What defense does a petite 5'2" lady weighing in at 100 pounds have against a 6 foot 200 pound rapist or murderer on a deserted street or in her home? What good is it when you have seconds to react in self defense and the cops are only 20 minutes away? Resolving such a dispute in court is a bit late and entirely moot if you are ravaged or dead. God didn't make people equal and government can at best professes to protect equal rights. Sam Colt and other gun makers made people equal in polite or any other company. Besides, idiots driving around using cell phones are much more dangerous than any responsible person carrying a gun.
