In summing up real estate conditions for the past week, C. Phil Waters is of the opinion that there is no special location in which the public is interested. It appears it is Little Rock dirt in general they desire. Mr. Waters believes that his advice for a number of years past, that if one buys Little Rock dirt and it is only a hole in the ground, if it is obtained cheap enough and the purchaser will wait long enough, it will prove a good investment.

50 YEARS AGO Nov. 24, 1962

New Christmas decorations of gold foil ropes with lighted stars in the center, are being strung over Main and Washington in North Little Rock. Electric department crews are hanging the strands between old trolley posts. Downtown North Little Rock Inc., the City Beautiful Commission and businessmen purchased the decorations. The $3,875 ornaments replace nineyear-old decorations for which the manufacturer allowed $360 in trade value.

25 YEARS AGO Nov. 24, 1987 The approximately1,300 Arkansas teachers who didn’t pass the basic skills test may get another chance to get back into the classroom without returning to college for course work required for undergraduates. A proposal by the state Department of Education would offer a simple method to get teaching certificates renewed. The only way those teachers can reenter the education field under current regulations is to return to college and take all courses required for students getting a firsttime teaching certificate.

10 YEARS AGO Nov. 24, 2002

The U.S. Department of Justice has notified Gov. Mike Huckabee that it will begin an investigation in January into the treatment of residents at the Conway Human Development Center. John Selig, deputy director of the state Department of Human Services, said five or six issues involving care would be scrutinized. “Any time the Justice Department has an investigation, we take it seriously,” he said. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette published a fivepart series in June detailing physical and sexual abuse of residents and allegations of civil rights violations at the Conway center.
