Camden Fairview beats Wynne to set up another title shot

— The Camden Fairview Cardinals were able to win in Wynne, and that will give them another shot at winning a state championship.

The Cardinals (13-0) downed the Yellowjackets (11-1) 34-21 Friday night to advance to their third state championship game in the past four years. Camden Fairview finished as the state runner-up in 2009 and 2010.

Friday’s battle of unbeatens came down to the fourth quarter, after Wynne scored 14 points in the third to pull within 28-21 heading into the final quarter.

Camden Fairview got a 50-yard touchdown throw from Matthew Ollison to Deion Holliman with 6:37 to play, and another stop by its defense pretty much sealed up the victory.

Camden Fairview took an early lead, getting a 25-yard pass from Ollison to Cornelius Page for a 7-0 lead with 9:15 to play in the first quarter. Wynne got within 7-6 with 9:34 to playin the second when Draylon Willis scored from 5 yards out, but Wynne missed the extra point to keep the Cardinals in the lead.

Page then scored from 7 yards out on an end-around to push Camden Fairview’s advantage to 14-6, before scoring on a 55-yard pass with 29 seconds left before halftime to put the Cards up 21-6.

Camden Fairview increased its lead to 28-6 when the Cardinals scored on their first drive of the second half, on a 3-yard run by Jerry Moorehead with 7:43 left in the third.

Wynne came charging back, though, moving the ball quickly with the passing of Ross Trail. Draylon capped two long Wynne drives by scoring from the 3 and the 1 before Holliman’s play in the fourth swung momentum back in the Cardinals’ favor.

Trail finished 12 of 22passing for 139 yards and also rushed 15 times for 71 yards. Zach Morris caught five passes for 65 yards for the Yellowjackets.

Ollison finished 15 of 21 passing for 227 yards while Moorehead ran 12 times for 79 yards and caught 4 passes for 53 yards. Page had 5 catches for 92 yards and rushed 6 times for 48 yards, and Holliman caught two passes for 78 yards.
