Louisiana Tech edges UCA late

— Central Arkansas fought its way back from a 15-point deficit in the second half to take the lead in the final two minutes, but Louisiana Tech came up with a turnover and made two free throws down the stretch to hold off the Sugar Bears 65-63 Tuesday night.

After a three-pointer by UCA’s Tracey Parsons tied the game at 63 with 31 seconds left, Louisiana Tech’s Brittany Lewis made one of two free throws on the Lady Techsters’ ensuing possession with six seconds left to retake the lead.

Parsons grabbed the rebound for the Sugar Bears (3-1) on Lewis’ miss on the second freethrow attempt, and the Sugar Bears called a timeout to set up a final play. The inbounds pass from freshman Jameka Watkins was a jump ball that Lewis controlled over Courtney Duever, and Lewis went to the line and again made one of two with two seconds left.

Senior forward Megan Herbert led all players with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Jelena Vucinic led Louisiana Tech (1-3) with 17 points.
