Ex-legislator named to state Supreme Court

— Gov. Mike Beebe has appointed former highway commissioner and current appeals court judge Cliff Hoofman to a seat on the Arkansas Supreme Court.

The governor announced the appointment Wednesday.

Hoofman replaces retiring Justice Robert Brown.

Beebe appointed Hoofman to the Arkansas Court of Appeals in January and his term expires at the end of the year. He’ll join the Supreme Court on Jan. 1, and that appointment ends Dec. 31, 2014.

Hoofman served in the Arkansas House of Representatives for eight years before serving in the state Senate for 20 years. He’s also worked as director of legislative affairs in the attorney general’s office and as city attorney in North Little Rock.
