The Schmieding Foundation of Springdale said Tuesday that it is giving Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock a $1 million gift to pay for research, clinical support and education advancing the care of cancer and blood-disorders patients at the hospital.
Arkansas Children’s Hospital will use the funds to create the Lawrence H. Schmieding Endowed Chair in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology thefoundation said Tuesday.
More than 3,000 patients a year receive care in the Children’s Hospital hematology/oncology department.
Schmieding Foundation funds created the Schmieding Developmental Center and Schmieding Kids First program, which are now located in the Centers for Children in Lowell, a partnership between Arkansas Children’s Hospital and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
The Schmieding Foundation’s $1 million gift to the Children’s Hospital will be part the hospital’s Century of Possibility Centennial Campaign. The hospital has set a fundraising goal of $160 million to support pediatric care, research, education and prevention. The hospital has raised $116 million so far.
