The Bentonville Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 70, has begun its annual Shop with a Cop campaign to help underprivileged, local children.

The group plans to take 28 children to the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Bentonville Dec. 3 to buy presents for themselves and their families. Funds are needed to help purchase gifts for these families.

Last year, the group spent more than $8,000 on local families in need. More information is available by calling Lt. Michael Martin at (479) 271-5967.

Fort Smith to host Christmas lighting

Fort Smith will turn on its Christmas lights at 6:30 p.m.

Thursday at Creekmore, Pendergraft and Fort Smith River parks along the Arkansas River. The lighting display will run through Dec. 31.

The small train at Creekmore Park will run from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday this year. Creekmore Park will also host the annual Holiday Express Train from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 3-22, excluding Sundays, and from Dec. 26-29.
