Man Accused of Theft

— A Lowell man was arrested Sunday in connection with stealing a vehicle, according to Springdale police.

John Gregory, 32, of 410 Zion Church Road was arrested in connection with felony theft of a motor vehicle, obstructing governmental operations, theft by receiving and misdemeanor theft of motor fuel, according to Springdale police.

A Springdale officer stopped the driver of a white 2000 GMC Yukon that had been reported as a $17 fuel drive-off from the Kum & Go at 500 N. Thompson in Springdale.

The officer asked for Gregory’s driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance. Gregory told the officer he had lost his license and didn’t know where the registration and proof of insurance were because he was borrowing the vehicle. Gregory told the officer his name was Charles Gregory. He later told the officer that was his brother’s name.

The officer performed a search of the vehicle and found the original license plate. He ran the plate number and learned the vehicle was listed as stolen. Gregory reportedly admitted to police he knew the vehicle was stolen.

Gregory was being held Sunday in the Washington County Detention Center without bond.
