Lady War Eagles Run Strong In Texas

Nearly 250 Runners Compete In Boys' Championship Division At South Cross Country Regional

Class 7A state girls cross country champion Rogers Heritage finished in 11th place at the Nike South Cross Country Regional Saturday at the Woodlands, Texas.

Dierdre Sheets led the Lady War Eagles effort with a 51st place finish in a time of 19:17.01. Hannah Owen finished in 67th place for Heritage with a 19:41.11 while Kesley Brown crossed in 68th place in a 19:44.31. All three Lady War Eagles runners will return next year.

“We ran pretty well down here,” Heritage coach Jeff Shaw said. “They were really 15-20 seconds slower than they have ran. I think the whole team was really a little bit intimidated. It was good for us to come down here.

“We figured it up and if we ran what we should have; we could have been seventh or eighth.”

Rogers High senior Maggie Montoya finished in 13th place in the girls’ championship division in a time of 18:10.96. The Lady Mounties did not enter enough runners to figure in the team competition.

In the boys’ race, Bentonville finished in eighth place while Rogers High was in 14th place.

The Tigers’ Jacob Shiohira finished seventh overall with a time of 15:29.09. Bentonville also got top 100 finishes out of Austin Hurt (67) and Alex Battaglia (90). Hector Ramos (121), Parker Dey (133), Brennan Kotoucek (148) and Ryan Dalton (186) rounded out the Tigers’ strong showing.

Austin Salazar led the Mounties effort with a 36th place finish in 16:12.61. Taylor Bryant was the second Rogers runner to cross with a 108th place finish in 16:49.52.

Andrew Simpson (145), Ian Smith (152), Paul Torres (163) and Jesse Garcia (187) rounded out the Mounties scoring.

Nearly 250 runners competed in the boys’ championship division.
