18 month sentence for tax preparer

A Fort Smith tax prepaper was sentenced to 18 month in prison for helping clients avoid a total of $144,382 in taxes, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Conner Eldridge.

Jennifer Siriphounsavath, 30, was ordered to pay the Internal Revenue Service the same amount of money in restitution, according to the news release.

"As the filing season approaches, this should serve as a loud warning to dishonest tax preparers in this district," Christopher Henry, special agent in charge of an IRS criminal investigation field office, said in the news release. "IRS will not tolerate dishonest tax preparers and will take swift and agressive measures against those who have committed fraud."
