Two Area Teachers Receive Economics Arkansas Awards

Two Northwest Arkansas teachers were among the dozen educators who received a Bessie B. Moore Award from Economics Arkansas on Nov. 8.

Heather Grosze of Rogers Heritage High School was recognized for a project where students used business skills to solve social problems. Her project was titled “Social Entrepreneurship: The Bottom Line is Lives.”

Lynn Massey of Harp and Lee Elementary schools in Springdale, was recognized for a project where students set up classroom businesses and learned about commercial loans, investment risks, marketing, customer service, credit, profits and loss and community involvement. Her project was titled “Masseychussetts: A Model City on the Economic Horizon.”

Both women received a $1,000 cash prize for their efforts.

The Bessie B. Moore Awards program is open to kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers who teach economic principals in their classes. Economics Arkansas has presented the awards since 1996.
