— VOLLEYBALL

ASU eliminated

No. 5 seed Arkansas State was eliminated by top-seeded Western Kentucky 25-19, 25-11, 25-15 Friday night in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Bowling Green, Ky.

Marie Hadar led the Red Wolves (19-14) with eight kills. Megan Baska had 14 digs while Allison Kearney finished with 26 assists.

Western Kentucky (31-3) was led by Jordyn Skinner and Heather Boyan, who each had 10 kills. Ashley Potts recorded 20 digs.

UCA advances

Taylor Hammons had 10 kills, 3 blocks and 3 assists, Jessica Hays finished with 24 kills, 9 digs and 1 ace, and Central Arkansas beat Southeastern Louisiana 25-15, 22-25, 25-22, 25-13 in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament at the Farris Center in Conway.

Jessica Nagy added 10 kills, 3 digs, 2 aces and 1 block for UCA (28-4).

Courtney Donald led Southeastern Louisiana (11-19) with 12 kills and six blocks.

Arkansas Tech, Harding advance

Arkansas Tech defeated Southern Arkansas 25-19, 25-20, 28-26 in the semifinals of the Great American Conference Tournament at Rhodes Field House in Searcy.

Arkansas Tech was led by Sara Motsinger, who had 18 kills and 10 digs. Amber Cerrillos had 10 digs and 40 assists.

Southern Arkansas finishes the season 23-12.

Arkansas Tech (27-9) will meet Harding, which defeated Southwestern Oklahoma State 25-20, 25-18, 21-25, 23-25, 15-11 Friday, at 2 p.m. today in the final.

Harding (27-6) was led by Mollie Arnold with 17 kills.

BASKETBALL

UAM drops Arkansas-Fort Smith

Arkansas-Monticello freshman Donlicia James scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the Cotton Blossoms’ 78-62 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith on Friday at Steelman Fieldhouse in Monticello.

Senior Candace Virgadamo and freshman Jordan Goforth added 14 points each, while freshman Demetra Howlingwolf had 10 points. Porsha Donnerson led Arkansas-Fort Smith with 22 points and 16 rebounds.

The Cotton Blossoms (2-0) held the Lady Lions (1-1) to just one basket in the final 4:39, closing out the contest on a 13-2 scoring run to seal the victory.
