PUBLIC VIEWPOINT: Editorialist Misses Mark On Guns

I thoroughly enjoyed the ignorant editorial on “open carry” firearms laws. The attempt at credibility by claiming to be surrounded by “hunters” was humorously pathetic.

Hunters do not carry their weapons in a concealed manner.

Painting Oklahoma as a place where the citizens will be carrying weapons like high noon at the OK Corral was offensive. In the 43 states that allow open carry, that situation has not developed. Why will it appear in Oklahoma or, by your inference, Arkansas?

Quick-draw holsters are not comfortable to wear while driving or working, nor do they accessorize well. The big revolver is not usualanymore. People carry smaller semiautomatics. A Glock pistol does not lend itself to quick-draw, ask one of your “hunters.”

What the open carry law would allow is that a licensed person would be able to take their coat off in a restaurant, or on a 100-degree day standing in line at the ATM. Currently in Arkansas, if your weapon can be glimpsed by someone you are breaking the law. That person, who has been though a serious background check, could move their holster to the outside of their belt instead of the inside.

The Wild West has been replaced by St. Louis, Chicago, Detroit suburbs and Little Rock.

Are you truly saying that you would rather have people with concealed firearms around you instead of being able to see who is armed? I feel the opposite. Lib Party line is stupid in this case. Perhaps you should have someone who actually has some knowledge of the process write the editorials.

WHERE WILL

THE FLAG GO?

Every day I go past the entrance of the new Rogers Sports Complex at Hudson Road and 22nd street. Standing just inside the entrance are three tallflagpoles. However, they are all the same height. Does that mean that there will be no American flag at the entrance?

Everyone knows that the American fl ag fl ies higher than all others. It is inconceivable that the high-priced architects and the city’s sports complex manager would not have a large American flag on a lighted pole at the entrance.

Our country is in dire need of a large dose of pride and patriotism at this time and our young people need to be a part of it. Please see to it that a large flag on a lighted pole is placed at the entrance!
