PERSONAL SPACE: Hadi Dudley

Where I live: I live near the former “Old Applegate Place” — a few minutes from downtown Bentonville and very close to the Wal-Mart Supercenter. We have five acres and a farm-style home in the middle of town. We bought the place about 10 years ago so we could have our horses on our property, instead of boarding them in Pea Ridge.

Occupation: Library director at Bentonville Public Library. I have held this position for five years. Ten years ago, I began working at the library and played an integral role in the planning and opening of our lovely facility. Bentonville Library is highly used by our community — it is really rewarding to observe how busy we are, every day. Plus, I have the best staff.

My favorite space: Outside, at home, with our four horses.

Why? There are many times when I’m doing “farm chores” that turn into a nice respite from the hectic stresses of life. It’s not even a matter of saddling up to ride; instead, I like to spend quiet time just being there. It may sound odd, but I love the smell of horses.

If I could do one thing to improve this space I would: Add a front-end loader to our small tractor for mucking and composting. And maybe remodel our barn someday.
