PUBLIC VIEWPOINT

Future Bright For Springdale Students

Afew weeks ago, I had the opportunity to meet with Carol Turley’s International Baccalaureate class at Springdale High School.

Westminster College off ers college hours to IB students and up to 30 hours to students with an IB diploma. The college is a small liberal arts school in Fulton, Mo.

We are a nice distance from home for students in Northwest Arkansas who want a smaller college experience. Students with an IB background transition nicely into the Westminster College environment.

In all honesty, I had taken visits to Springdale High School off my schedule.

Standing in a high school cafeteria hoping a student will stop and talk hasproven to not be productive. My connection with Mrs.

Turley and her program was a game changer. In this day and age, educators are so overworked. It’s hard for people in my profession to get our foot in the door. Mrs. Turley not only returned my phone call but was enthusiastic about the opportunity Westminster College could provide her students.

In my 12 years in enrollment services, last week’s visit to Springdale High School was in my top three visits. The kids I interacted with were top notch. They paid attention and asked thoughtful questions.

The work Mrs. Turley has done with these students and the curriculum Springdale High School is offering is giving yourstudents the edge they need to be marketable candidates for outstanding college opportunities.

Kudos to Carol Turley and your school district for offering the IB opportunity to your students.

Westminster CollegeBE RIGHT, NOT POPULARThe Republicans lost the election this week, but so did the Democrats and Americans.

I am writing to Christians, so you atheists may stop reading now.

Beloved, this is not a time to hang our heads and give up. Our Lord Jesus didn’t pout and quit when timesgot hard. Neither can we.

It is time to trim our lamps because we are children of light, Jesus Christ being that light. We must keep our salt in good supply because Jesus said we are the salt of the earth.

Light will shine a way in the darkness. Light will also expose dirt, evil and sin. Salt is used to preserve, cleanse.

We cannot be of any use to our Lord if we are not cleansed by His blood and filled with the Holy Spirit.

America voted its values, and some of those values are wrong. If our foundations are on Christ, we are shaken but not destroyed. Be salt and light.

Stand for truth.

You won’t be popular, but you will be right.
