Fayetteville Volleyball Duo Signs With Schools

— Two of the top high school volleyball players have helped build Fayetteville into one of the state’s best programs.

Those same two athletes were sent off in style on National Signing Day.

Aubrey Edie, a 6-foot senior setter, and Tatum Marshall, a 5-7 senior libero, signed their letters of intent Wednesday in front of a crowd of supporters, students and family in Bulldog Arena. Edie, considered one of the top setters in the region, signed with Ole Miss, while Marshall is headed to Missouri State.

For Edie, the choice to remain in the Southeastern Conference at Ole Miss wasn’t easy with several other schools showing interest, including Pepperdine, North Carolina, LSU and Georgia.

“It’s definitely an honor to be able to go through this,” said Edie, a second-team Under Armour All-American pick and Fayetteville’s all-time leader in assists. “I feel like at Ole Miss I fit in. Just the atmosphere I really like, the coaches are great and I love the players.”

Marshall committed to Missouri State after her junior season. But after a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury this past summer forced her to miss her senior season, she was especially thrilled with her choice of school when Missouri State kept true to its original scholarship offer.

“This is just a real relief and it points me in the direction of my future,” Marshall said. “I’m just real excited to be able to play volleyball again.

“I was very blessed that (Missouri State) stuck with my scholarship. They said they would be there for me, and they were. I’m still going there, so it’s awesome.”

Fayetteville senior Ashlye Pool also signed Wednesday to play softball at Crowder College. She was the Lady Bulldogs top pitcher last season, compiling an 18-4 record with a 2.15 ERA while also hitting .320 with 23 RBIs.

“Ashlye has done everything for us,” Fayetteville softball coach Jason Shirey said. “She’s pitched, played catcher, first base, third base. And the thing with her is when she’s out there you always know you’re going to get the best.”
