Police arrested an Alpena man Wednesday after a carjacking was reported at a car wash on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Erik D. Olson, 38, of 438 County Road 917 faces a felony charge of aggravated robbery, along with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree terroristic threatening, reckless driving, violation of implied consent and driving on a suspended license.

Police responded to the Suds Car Wash, 1541 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., just after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a robbery.

According to a preliminary arrest report, Olson held a rifle to a man’s head at the car wash and threatened to kill his family.

He then stole the man’s wallet and Chevrolet Tahoe, the report said.

As Olson exited the car wash, police said a hose got tangled in the axle and was ripped from the wash bay.

Officers located Olson driving the stolen Tahoe northbound in heavy traffic on Interstate 540, near Arkansas 112, the report said.

Olson made several unexpected lane changes, driving “in a reckless manner,” according to the report.

He exited the interstate in Johnson and accelerated onto the northbound ramp, the report said.

Officers stopped Olson on I-540.

Police said they found the cell phone and wallet of the Tahoe’s owner, along with Olson’s rifle, inside the vehicle.

Olson was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held Thursday on $2,000 bond.
