— CROSS COUNTRY Arkansas’ Harter top coach in region

Arkansas women’s coach Lance Harter was selected as the South Central Region Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. It is the 15th regional coaching honor for Harter, now in his 23rd season with the Razorbacks.

The Razorbacks won the regional title behind five top-15 individual finishes. The victory was the Razorbacks’ second consecutive regional title and 17th in program history. Arkansas secured an automatic berth into the NCAA Championships.

FOOTBALL

ASU dismisses freshman defensive back

Terrious Triplett has been dismissed from the Arkansas State football team for a violation of team rules, Coach Gus Malzahn announced in a statement Tuesday night.

Triplett, a freshman defensive back from Memphis, played in seven games this season and recorded six tackles.

SAU to play in Heart of Texas Bowl

Southern Arkansas, which finished the regular season 8-2, has received an invitation to play in the first Division II Heart of Texas Bowl scheduled for Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. in Copperas Cove, Texas, at Copperas Cove High School’s Bulldawg Stadium.

The Muleriders opponent will be McMurry (Texas) University, currently 7-3 on the season after defeating Bacone (Okla.) 47-14 last weekend. The War Hawks close out their regular season Saturday at home against the University of Mexico.

The Heart of Texas Bowl has existed for a number of years as the National Junior College game and is adding the Division II game this year, which will be played in conjunction with the 12th annual junior college bowl that features a member of the Southwest Junior College Conference against an at-large junior college team. That game will take place earlier in the day, but the time and teams have not yet been announced.

Arkansas Tech’s Cerrillos honored by GAC

Arkansas Tech’s Amber Cerrillos claimed her third Great American Conference setter of the week award after she averaged a league-leading 12.33 assists per set in two GAC victories last week. After she had 39 assists and 11 digs against Henderson State, she had 35 assists and nine digs against Southern Arkansas.
