Galileo Scope Workshop, Night Viewing at Hobbs Friday

— Hobbs State Park–Conservation will host an astronomy workshop at 6 p.m. Friday.

Participants will build a full-scale working model of the telescope used by Galileo 400 years ago, according to a news release. The workshop is open to those 10 and older.

The workshop will be taught by Stuart Riley who has a doctorate in physics in astronomy. He was an officer with the Astronomical Society of Kansas City, and is now a member of the NWA Star Gazers. 

Night sky viewing will begin following the workshop. Participants are asked to bring a tripod for their GalileoScope, a folding chair, binoculars and flashlights with the lenses covered either with red cloth or a red balloon.

The costs is $35 plus tax and includes one GalileoScope and complete instructions for up to four people in a group. There is a $5 charge for each person over the four-person limit.

The workshop will be at the Visitor Center located just east of the Arkansas 12 and War Eagle Road intersection.
