— Summar Roachell, who won four consecutive high school state individual championships in Arkansas' largest classification, signed a letter of intent to play golf at the University of Arkansas on Wednesday.

The Conway High School senior was also a three-time overall state champion. She has placed top five in four of seven career amateur events, winning one.

“(We) were determined to keep this young lady as a Razorback,” Arkansas coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. “She is passionate about the University of Arkansas and we are excited to help her grow her game even more. Summar gives us great depth and I'm looking forward to what she will contribute to our team both on and off the golf course.

“Summar possesses a competitive edge that you just can't teach. She wants to be the one making a putt to win and she thrives under those conditions. She has an outstanding short game and is a complete player.”

Roachell led Conway to a Class 7A state championship in September and won a three-way playoff in October during the state overall golf tournament at Little Rock's Pleasant Valley Country Club. She is the only signee for the Razorbacks in the class of 2013.

“I attended golf camp at Arkansas when I was 10, and I loved the campus and the program,” Roachell said. “After visiting several other schools, I just knew that choosing Arkansas was the right decision for me.”

The fall signing period for all collegiate sports other than football began Wednesday. The period will run through next Tuesday.
