Police Arrest Suspect in Hit-and-Run

— A woman arrested on drug charges was connected Monday to a hit-and-run that injured a pedestrian, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Fayetteville police Monday arrested Erin Maglothin, 31, of 2738 W. White Oak Road in Fayetteville in connection with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance and nine counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was later charged with felony first-degree battery and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

Elizabeth Napier, 57, of Fayetteville, suffered a broken wrist, concussion, bruises and other internal injuries after she was hit by a vehicle Nov. 3 near the intersection of West Howard Nickel Road and North Salem Road, according to Sheriff’s Office reports.

Fayetteville police found Maglothin at the Red Roof Inn on South Futrall Drive after a caller reported drugs were being sold from one of the rooms, according to a preliminary arrest report. Officers said they found pain medicine along with seven used syringes, two spoons with white residue and a plastic bag with white residue.

Maglothin admitted to the hit-and-run incident during an interview with a Sheriff’s Office investigator. Police said she told them she has an addiction to pain medicine, fell asleep at the time of the incident and woke up when she struck Napier.

Maglothin wrote an apology letter to Napier, according to the arrest report. She was in the Washington County Detention Center on Monday on a $5,000 bond.
