Authorities arrested a woman in connection with a hit-and-run accident earlier this month after she confessed to being the driver and wrote a letter apologizing to the pedestrian who was hit, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Erin Maglothin, 31, of Fayetteville, was booked into the Washington County Jail on Monday morning in connection with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, first-degree battery and leaving the scene of an accident, according to the sheriff's website.

Maglothin told investigators she had an addiction to painkillers and had fallen asleep when the accident happened Nov. 3 just outside of Fayetteville, the news release stated. She was being held Monday in the Washington County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
