United Way seeks tax preparers

United Way of Northwest Arkansas is recruiting volunteers to help lower-income families prepare their income-tax forms at various locations in the metro area.

Volunteers do not need accounting or finance experience to participate. Training is free and flexible.

Volunteers are needed for several roles that do not require working with tax forms. Volunteers also are needed as client greeters, screeners, site assistants, site leaders, translators, financial resource specialists and information technology managers. Volunteers who speak Spanish or Marshallese are greatly needed.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites help low and middle-income families prepare their income tax forms and other tax credits. A VITA volunteer helps families file returns and maximize refunds. One volunteer hour can help return as much as $1,300 to a family, according to a news release from the United Way.

Volunteers may contact Holly Hill of United Way at (877) 750-1221 or [email protected] or view unitedwaynwa/vita.

Briefs are for businesses in Northwest Arkansas that are new, have moved or closed, opened a new branch, changed owners or have been honored by an independent organization. Email items to [email protected]. Information will be published as space allows.
