2 noted architects set lecture in Little Rock

Architects Vincent James and Jennifer Yoos will be the featured speakers Tuesday at the 2012-13 season’s second Art of Architecture lecture.

James and Yoos, who are this year’s John G. Williams visiting professors at the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, will present “VJAA: A Reflexive Practice” at 6 p.m. in the Darragh Center of the main branch of the Central Arkansas Library System at 100 Rock St. Their lecture will be preceded by a reception at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

They are principals in VJAA, a Minneapolis firm known for its innovative approach to architectural practice, environmentally sensitive design and elegantly crafted buildings.

James, the Cass Gilbert professor in practice at the University of Minnesota School of Architecture, has taught at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and Tulane University. Yoos, who also is a professor in practice at the Minnesota school, has collaborated on the design of all of the firm’s projects since joining VJAA in 1997, two years after its founding by James.

The lecture series, now in its ninth season, is sponsored by the Architecture and Design Network, and is supported in part by the FayJones School of Architecture, the Arkansas Arts Center and the central Arkansas chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
