BEARDEN 47, FOREMAN 6

BEARDEN - Jamond Young ran for three touchdowns and passed for another to lead Bearden (9-2) to a first-round playoff victory over Foreman (5-6).

Young opened Bearden’s scoring with a 46-yard touchdown pass to Zach Craig in the second quarter and added a 5-yard scoring run just before halftime. He scored on runs of 27 and 62 yards in the third quarter.

Craig added a 54-yard touchdown run for the Bears, who also got scoring runs of 23 yards by B.J. Ross and 42 yards from Joseph Smith.

Eddie Batey’s 45-yard, fourth-quarter run was Foreman’s lone score.

Bearden will meet Gurdon in a second round game next week.

MAGNET COVE 41, JOHNSON CO. WESTSIDE 6

MAGNET COVE - Austin Stringfellow caught two touchdown passes from Hunter Linam and returned an interception 74 yards for a touchdown to lead Magnet Cove (10-1) to an opening-round Class 2A playoff victory over Johnson County Westside (4-6).

Stringfellow caught scoring passes of 46 and 36 yards from Linam, who also ran for a 34-yard touchdown and threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Jakob Dickey.

Stringfellow added two interceptions for Magnet Cove.

CONWAY CHRISTIAN 40, MCCROY 32

CONWAY - Tanner Stevenson ran for 202 yards and a touchdown and passed for 247 yards and 4 touchdowns for Conway Christian in a first-round victory over McCrory.

Stevenson scored on a 69-yard run in the first quarter and threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Dather in the second quarter. He tossed touchdown passes of 9 and 30 yards to Jonathon Antonio in the third quarter and a 31-yard scoring pass to Dather in the final quarter.

Dather added a 5-yard touchdown run for Conway Christian.

Logan Best rushed for 322 yards and touchdowns of 35, 66 and 14 yards for McCrory.

POYEN 18, HACKETT 13

HACKETT - Poyen (3-8) scored both of its touchdowns in the fourth quarter - the final one on a 70-yard run by Will Yates - to rally past Hackett (9-2).

Until the fourth quarter, the Indians’ scoring was limited to two first-half safeties as the Hornets led 6-4 at halftime on the strength of William Thomas’ 15-yard run in the second quarter.

Hackett built the lead to 13-4 in the third quarter when C.J. Clem returned a punt 38 yards for a touchdown.

Poyen scored its first touchdown on a double pass - Asa Riggins to Ricky Shelly to Auston Hall - to trim the lead to 13-10 with 5:30 left. Yates’ scoring run came with two minutes left to give the Indians their first lead. Coleman Stanton scored on the two-point conversion to provide the final margin.

MINERAL SPRINGS 54, ENGLAND 6

MINERAL SPRINGS - Avante Evans ran for a touchdown, caught a touchdown pass and returned an interception for a score to lead Mineral Springs (8-3) to a first-round rout of England.

Evans scored on a 9-yard run, caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from Kendrick Langston and returned a third-quarter interception 70 yards for a score.

Langston added touchdown runs of 4, 1 and 26 yards for Mineral Springs, which will host Poyen in the second round next week.

Rashad Williams and Cameron Lacy also scored rushing touchdowns for Mineral Springs.

EAST POINSETT COUNTY 52, NORPHLET 14

LEPANTO - Second-seeded East Poinsett County took advantage of six Norphlet turnovers to defeat the Leopards in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.

The Warriors (10-1) converted five Norphlet turnovers into 24 first-half points and wore down the undermanned Leopards in the second half.

Senior Caleb Hartson ran for three touchdowns in the second half and gained 83 of his game-high 115 yards after halftime. Junior Trevor McDaniel also ran for a second-half score, gaining 75 of his 107 yards after halftime.

The Warriors scored on four of their first five possessions of the second half, triggering the mercy rule with Hartson’s 33-yard touchdown run at the 9:45 mark of the fourth quarter.

CARLISLE 39, MOUNT IDA 14

CARLISLE - Justice Bryant’s 45-yard touchdown run with 8:57 left in the first quarter set the tone for Carlisle’s playoff victory over Mount Ida.

Bryant’s score was the first of four touchdowns in the first half for the Bison, who rolled to a 33-0 halftime lead. Bryant finished with 101 yards rushing on four carries.

Quarterback Chris Hart had 9 carries for 45 yards and 3 touchdowns and was 8 of 12 passing for 127 yards. Daron Ricks added 65 yards and 2 touchdowns on 11 carries for Carlisle (10-1).

BIGELOW 20, BRINKLEY 6

BIGELOW - Terrell Dunlap rushed for 146 yards on 23 carries and scored on a 35-yard run to lead Bigelow (9-1) past Brinkley in a first-round game.

Tim Gunn added a 10-yard touchdown run and quarterback Austin Turner hit Michael Harding with a 29-yard touchdown pass for Bigelow.

JUNCTION CITY 42, MARKED TREE 0

JUNCTION CITY - It took Junction City 11 seconds to seize the lead in a first-round victory over Marked Tree.

Senior quarterback Shaquille Hunter made the Indians pay after a failed onside kick attempt to open the game - scoring on a 50-yard run on the first play from scrimmage.

Hunter scored his second touchdown on a 2-yard touchdown run on Junction City’s second drive, and the Dragons took a 21-0 lead with 2:54 remaining in the first quarter when Hunter hit junior running back Jarkell Brown on a 38-yard touchdown pass. The two connected again - on a 33-yard touchdown pass - after a botched punt by Marked Tree gave Junction City the ball deep in Indians territory.

Following a fumble recovery by junior lineman Michael Smith, found sophomore tight end Jamario Bell on a 19-yard touchdown pass.

Hunter finished 8 of 14 for 145 yards and 3 touchdowns and also led the team with 96 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns on 6 carries.

Brown led the team receiving with 4 catches for 88 yards and 2 touchdowns.

DIERKS 40, HECTOR 7

HECTOR - Quarterback Adam Bradshaw passed for 283 yards and three touchdowns and Justin McCauley returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown as Dierks (8-3) beat Hector in a first-round game.

Andrew Sirmon caught seven passes for 117 yards and Kirby Adams ran for 76 yards for Dierks, which will play Junction City in the second round next week.

STRONG 35, HAZEN 0

HAZEN - Strong scored a touchdown after a blocked punt and another after a recovered fumble during a 22-point second quarter in its Class 2A playoff victory.

Strong’s blocked punt turned into a 7-yard touchdown run by Antonio Green and the recovered fumble turned into a 40-yard touchdown pass from Jononta Hicks to Jacoby Heard. Strong (6-5) then forced a punt before Hicks added a 28-yard touchdown run to make it 22-0 at halftime.

Jamarian Ford added a 7-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and Hicks’ 30-yard touchdown pass to Heard set the final score.

Hazen finished the season 7-4.

WALNUT RIDGE 62, RISON 40

RISON - Walnut Ridge rolled up 700 yards in total offense to surprise Rison.

Fullback Tyler Clement led the way with 15 carries for 146 yards and 2 touchdowns while Eric Wilcoxson accounted for 170 yards rushing and 1 touchdown on 9 carries.

Quarterback Zack Crisler rushed 15 carries for 107 yards. Receiver Cole Hicks caught 2 passes for 98 yards and 1 touchdown.

Devonta Jones scored two touchdowns for the Wildcats, including a 90-yard scoring run.

The Bobcats host Strong next week.

DES ARC 26, MOUNTAINBURG 20

MOUNTAINBURG - Jalen Holloway rushed for four touchdowns, including three in the second half, to help Des Arc to a first-round victory.

Holloway scored on a 9-yard run in the first quarter, runs of 3 and 9 yards in the third quarter and a 4-yard run in the fourth.

He finished with 132 yards on 24 carries for Des Arc (6-5). Mountainburg finished 8-3.

MURFREESBORO 54, DECATUR 23

MURFREESBORO - Peter Saygnaphay rushed for 122 yards and one touchdown and also threw a touchdown pass to help Murfreesboro to 493 total yards and a first-round victory.

Saygnaphay rushed 17 times, including a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that gave Murfreesboro (8-3) a 16-7 lead. His 11-yard touchdown pass to Vonderek Robinson later in the quarter made it 24-15 and Marcus Jackson’s 7-yard run made it 32-15 at halftime.

Kyle Turbeville scored on runs of 5 and 23 yards in the third quarter, and Jackson had a 1-yard run in the third quarter, in which Murfressboro outscored Decatur 22-0.

Jackson finished with 129 yards rushing for Murfreesboro.

Decatur finished 6-5.
