11-0 Greenwood streaks past Fair

— The streaks continued for Greenwood and Little Rock Fair.

Wide receiver Drew Morgan scored the game’s first three touchdowns and Greenwood (11-0) didn’t look back after that, defeating Little Rock Fair 56-14 Friday night at Smith-Robinson Stadium. It was the 35th consecutive victory for Greenwood and the 26th consecutive loss on the field for Fair.

“Our guys were ready to play, and you can’t take any thing for granted in the playoffs,” Greenwood Coach Rick Jones said. “They’ve made big plays against opponents, so it was important to play sharp.”

Greenwood, which plays Little Rock Parkview next week, scored its first three touchdowns thanks to great field position. The Bulldogs started drives at Fair’s 34, 11 and 7, with Morgan accounting for all three scores as Greenwood took a 21-0 lead with7:02 left in the first quarter.

Morgan caught a 14-yard pass from quarterback Jabe Burgess and rushed for touchdowns of 11 and 4 yards.

“That’s the way our season has been all year,” Fair Coach Donald Harris said.

Morgan finished with 3 carries for 14 yards and 2 touchdowns and had 2 catches for 29 yards and 1 touchdown. Fellow wide receiver Austin Harris finished with 4 catches for 114 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Bulldogs added two more touchdowns - on a 7-yard catch by Harris from Burgess and a 6-yard run by Hoyt Smith - before Fair (0-11) managed its initial first down.

It was a big gain, too.

Fair’s Issac Nelson found Reginald Bennett for a 60-yard pass when he ran past the Bulldogs’ defense for a first down. Nelson scored on the next play, connecting for a 18-yard touchdown pass to Deonte Slater. The score cut the lead to 35-8 after a two-point conversion.
