— Bentonville’s newest park will have a City Council feel to it.

The city Parks and Recreation Department announced Thursday the new park at 601 S.E. D St. will be named for Eddie Austin and Mary Baggett.

A cookout will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow 11:30 a.m. at Austin-Baggett Park, according to a news release.

Austin had served on the council since 1986 before losing his re-election bid to Leah Williams on Tuesday.

Baggett has been on the council since 2001 and won re-election over Stephanie Orman on Tuesday. This is her second time to serve on the council. In 1972, Baggett was elected as the first woman to serve on the council.

The neighborhood park will include two play structures, a pavilion, picnic tables, an Americans with Disabilities Act accessible swing and open green space, according to a news release.
