Crash injuries kill Mississippi pilot

— A Mississippi man has died from injuries suffered when the single-engine plane he was flying crashed at Conway Municipal Airport, authorities said Thursday.

The pilot, Robert Allen III, 65, of Oxford, Miss., died Wednesday night at UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock, said Conway police spokesman LaTresha Woodruff.

Allen was the only person aboard the plane that crashed about noon Wednesday after it took off from the airport.

The plane struck some trees and a fence before it landed, smashing into a truck.Witnesses reported that the plane appeared to have had engine trouble, prompting the pilot to turn back toward the airport just before the crash.

Conway Fire Chief Bart Castleberry said Thursday that workers were preparing to remove the plane from the site.

Woodruff said the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
