Bulky Waste Cleanup Scheduled Saturday

Staff Report

— Residents can dispose of large items Saturday that won’t fit in curbside trash carts during the third of four bulky waste cleanups this fall.

City workers will accept furniture, appliances, carpet, vinyl flooring, drywall, lawnmowers and water heaters from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 4444 N. Crossover Road, and Vandergriff Elementary School, 2975 E. Township St.

Participants are asked to bring a copy of their most recent water bill to prove residency. Disposal is free.

Electronic waste, medical waste, tires and household hazardous waste, such as paint, batteries, cleaning solutions, automotive fluids and pesticides and herbicides, will not be accepted Saturday. Those can be taken to Washington County’s Household Hazardous Waste facility, 2615 Brink Drive, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Yard waste, such as leaves, brush and grass clippings, won’t be accepted either.

Residents can leave those materials on the curb in brown paper bags or in plastic tubs labeled “yard waste” on regularly scheduled trash pickup days. Or they can take yard waste to the city’s compost facility, 1708 Armstrong Ave., from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday or from 8 a.m. to noon on the first Saturday of the month.

The final bulky waste cleanup this year is scheduled for Nov. 17.
