Three hot air balloons competing in the first Great Arkansas Balloon Festival landed on Interstate 40 near Interstate 430 about 4:15 p.m. Saturday because they were low on fuel, Cpl. Leroy Sitton of the Arkansas State Police said. Sitton said when he arrived at the scene, one balloon was sitting in the center of the median near the Crystal Hill exit of I-40, another balloon landed just west of the first and the third balloon landed along the side of the highway. Sitton said the balloon landings resembled a “three-ringed circus.” 10 YEARS AGO Nov. 8, 2002

In opinions issued Thursday, the state’s Supreme Court justices did not specifically address what should be done with ballots cast during the extra 90 minutes that polls were open, but county attorneys said those opinions led them to decide to throw the late ballots out.
