Shoes needed for children’s shelter

Transfer students at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith are collecting shoes for the Fort Smith Children’s Emergency Shelter as part of the Shoes 4 a Cause event. The drive runs through Nov. 30.

Collection boxes have been placed around the UA-Fort Smith campus. Sneakers, flip-flops, running shoes, slippers and allweather shoes are needed for children ages six to 17.

The Transfer Student Organization collected more than 200 pairs of shoes for the shelter in 2011. More information is available by calling (479) 788-7106 .

The Beaver Watershed Alliance will host its Fall Friendraiser from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area near Rogers.

The alliance is a nonprofit group founded in 2010 to maintain high-quality drinking water from Beaver Lake and to improve the overall water quality in the Beaver Lake Watershed.
