Bryant seeks recount in pivotal House race

Posted: November 8, 2012 at 12:53 p.m.

— Republican control of the Arkansas House was still in the balance with one race still undecided Thursday, but another race is headed for a recount.

Democrat L.J. Bryant of Newport said Thursday he has formally asked for a recount in his close race with Republican John Hutchison of Harrisburg for the District 52 seat in northeast Arkansas.

Hutchison won by a few dozen votes but Bryant says the margin is close enough to merit another look at the ballots.

Republicans hold a 50-48 margin in the House, with one Green Party candidate elected.

Votes are still being counted in a northwest Arkansas House race featuring a Republican and an independent.
