SPRINGDALE — A 31-year-old Springdale man is being held in the Washington County Detention Center in connection with the rape of a 12-year-old girl.

Gerardo Gomez-Jimenez of 2363 Crooked Creek, in Springdale, was arrested Monday by Springdale police.

Bond is set at $50,000. He is scheduled to appear in Washington County Circuit Court on Dec. 5.

Gomez-Jimenez admitted to be sexually active with the girl for about two years, often at the girl’s home when her mother was at work, according to a news release from Springdale police and a preliminary report from the Washington County Sheriff’s office. Gomez-Jimenez bought the girl a cell phone so the two could communicate, according to reports.
