Magnolia coach steps down

Wednesday, November 7, 2012

— Magnolia Coach Robert Day resigned Tuesday after 16 seasons as head coach of the Class 5A Panthers.

Day, 46, began coaching at Magnolia in 1992 and was promoted to head coach in 1997.

Day led the Panthers to a share of the AAAA-Southwest title in 2002, but they finished 0-10 this fall.

“It’s time,” Day said. “I’ve been here a long time, and as a family we’re kind of ready to move on to the next chapter in our lives.”

Day said he hopes to continue coaching.
