Public sessions set on lock-hours plan

— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold public workshops on proposals to shut down locks for four hours each day on the McClellan-Kerr River Navigation System. The plan would affect all 18 locks in Arkansas and Oklahoma.

The Corps also proposes restricting access of recreational boaters to the locks, to two windows of use each day. That proposal would affect only two locks near Little Rock that have high recreational use, Murray and David D. Terry.

Here is information about the meetings. Each meeting includes two sessions, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.:

Wednesday: Little Rock, Witt Stephens Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center, 602 President Clinton Ave.

Thursday: Russellville; Corps’ Russellville Project Office, 1598 Lock and Dam Road.

Nov. 13: Ozark: Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative, 1811 W. Commercial St.

Nov. 15: Pine Bluff, Gov. Mike Huckabee Delta Rivers Nature Center, 1400 Black Dog Road.
