Our Endorsements

DON’T WORRY, Weary Voter, the election is Tuesday. Let’s all hope that we’ll know the outcome of the races-federal, state and local-on Wednesday morning. If not sooner.

Here are our endorsements so far:

Mitt Romney for president of theUnited States. The former governor of Massachusetts looks like a president, walks like a president, but better yet, speaks like he could be a great president. He seems to recognize that this is a country of opportunity, or should be, and not an everburgeoning land of entitlements, given to us by an all-knowing government.

Against Issue 1-to increase the state’s sales tax-on your ballot. Although we’re in favor of good roads in Arkansas, we think there is a limit on how much people can be taxed, and roads can be paid for with fuel taxes, which can be paid by folks who use the roads. Including those passing through the state.

Against Issue 5, the medical marijuana act. For people who are sick and need the drug, there are ways to get it without smoking it. And why make iteasier for teens to get started with this gateway drug?

For Steve Womack in the Third District’s congressional race. A 30-year veteran of the Army National Guard, and a former mayor of Rogers, he made the shift from executive to legislative branch for the last congressional election two years ago. In his time in office, he’s co-sponsored legislation to repeal Obamacare, and begun to build a strong pro-life and pro-Second Amendment voting record. Here’s a representative who does indeed represent his people.

As for a first timer, we urge folks in the Fourth District to vote For Tom Cotton in his race for Congress. This man impresses at first glance, and would be an excellent choice for the House of Representatives even if he had competition that impressed as well. And he doesn’t. Tom Cotton’s résumé is enough to recommend him. Military veteran. Harvard Law. He has a more than respectable past. But what is exciting is what he could be in the future.

Keep the good thought, y’all: This election will soon be over. And football will still be around. Strength.
