FAYETTEVILLE — Regina George, an all-American sprinter for the University of Arkansas women's track program, was arrested Sunday and charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental operations.
George, 21, was booked in the Washington County jail at 11:30 a.m. Sunday and later released on $2,000 bail. She has a hearing scheduled for Monday and a court date set for Dec. 14.
According to the arrest report provided by Fayetteville police, George was arrested after an officer responded to a welfare check for an intoxicated woman who had been discharged from Washington Regional Medical Center and left the hospital on foot without shoes. George was found walking south on Gregg Ave. shortly before 9 a.m. "unsteady with her feet" and with "bloodshot and watery eyes", according to the report.
George told the officer she was walking to The Greens apartment complex, located on Gregg Ave., but denied having been at the hospital. She told the officer her name was Briyanna Thomas, according to the report, and refused to show the name printed on the emergency room wristband she was wearing.
According to the report, George "became upset and attempted to walk away" while the officer tried to confirm her identity, and "actively resisted arrest and began shouting" while put in handcuffs.
The report did not state why George had been in the emergency room.
George, a UA senior, is a 13-time all-American and five-time SEC champion, competing in sprints competitions. This summer the Chicago native competed for Nigeria as a 400 meter sprinter in the Olympics.
